Is this really a one-time payment — no subscription hiding somewhere?
Yes. You pay once for Pro ($39 early-bird, $49 after), and you keep using that copy of OwnKit for as long as you want. There's no recurring fee to keep the app working, and no feature gets switched off if you stop paying — because you only ever pay once.
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Free covers the basics of clipboard history, screenshot capture with basic annotation, and OCR — enough to genuinely replace the free tools you're using today. Pro removes the limits (unlimited history, advanced capture, batch OCR) and adds the AI Assistant plus the full capture → OCR → AI → clipboard flow, which is where OwnKit earns its keep.
Do I need an OpenAI or Anthropic account to use the AI Assistant?
No. On a Mac with Apple Intelligence enabled, OwnKit uses it by default at no extra cost. If you'd rather use your own OpenAI, Anthropic, or other API key — for a different model or wider availability — you can. Either way, you're in control of the key and the bill; we never resell your usage.
Is my data private?
Clipboard history, screenshots, and OCR never leave your Mac. The AI Assistant only sends the text you explicitly select — to Apple's on-device model if you're using Apple Intelligence, or to the API you've configured if you're using your own key. Nothing goes through OwnKit's own servers, because we don't have any for your data.
How is this different from Setapp?
Setapp bundles 250+ apps for a monthly fee — you don't own any of them, and the moment you stop paying, they stop working. OwnKit is one app, purpose-built to replace the 3-4 utilities you actually use every day, and it's yours the moment you buy it. Fewer apps, no subscription meter.
Which Macs does OwnKit run on?
macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. OwnKit is built natively for Apple Silicon; the core features also run on Intel Macs. Apple Intelligence, where used, additionally requires a Mac and macOS version that supports it.
Can I use my license on more than one Mac?
Yes, within a personal-use license — the exact device limit is confirmed at checkout.
